Day 27: Lawrence, kS, to Emma, MO (Friday, July 11)
Distance traveled: 103 miles
Personal running distance today: 0, had to take a teammate to urgent care
Total personal miles to-date: 172.5 miles
Today's dedications: Rory Ellinger
My running buddy: Tina
Weather: Sunny, 80s, humid
I woke up this morning excited to finally be leaving gross Lawrence, kS, and finally be heading to Missouri! Today, both teams drove out to a trail to get our miles in since a lot of the back country roads weren’t great for running on. We caravanned out of Lawrence together, but somehow there was some miscommunication with one van at the state line, so this is all of our team minus one van at MISSOURI!

We continued on to a trail in Independence, MO. Once we had arrived, we all prepared to start running when my teammate Patty needed to go to urgent care. She hadn’t been feeling well for a few days, and today it had gotten worse. She suspected she had an ear infection, so Tina and I offered to drive her to urgent care in Raytown.
We spent a couple hours there, they prescribed her some medicine that will hopefully help, picked it up from Walgreens and grabbed a quick Sonic lunch before we headed on to our host for the night. By the time we had finished in Raytown, the runners had also finished and were headed for Emma, MO, too.
We actually arrived at the church at the same time our runners did, so we helped them unpack before everyone split up to go to shower. I decided to lie down for a short little nap before dinner at 5 p.m.
Some of the older ladies at the church prepared a wonderful dinner for our team: spaghetti (including gluten-free and vegetarian options), garlic bread, awesome salad, fruit and a great assortment of sweets for dessert. Post-dinner, we all decided to chill out in one of our rooms. Some people got their muscles rolled out or massaged. I caught up with Tanner on the phone for about an hour, then we headed to McDonald's to attempt to get wifi.
The Concordia, MO, McDonald's didn't have the best wifi in the world, but it was usable at least. I'm finishing up my post here as we speak. Obviously I cannot contain my excitement for tomorrow. We're heading to Columbia, which, if you didn't know, is where I went to school and loved every moment of my 4 years at Mizzou. We're even staying my sorority house.
I can't WAIT to show my team around the town, and especially to see my parents who are coming up to visit me! There are so many things I want to accomplish while I'm there, and I'm not sure if there's enough time, but I'm eager to get there and be at home. The next time I post, I'll be hanging out in the president's room back in KD, just like the good ol days!
Run happy,
Natalie
